Kathy Whitman, Elk Woman often includes animals and people together in her sculptures to depict our inner connections with each other. When the plains Indians adopted the horse, it expanded their world far beyond their villages. The horse brought the ability to hunt and travel. This sculpture illustrates a Native smoking his peace pipe and giving prayers of thanks to the horse.
